With lots of online universities budding up every day offering practically every course available, the jobs in online universities associated with online training have also increased.
Online universities don't need full time teachers; instead they need online instructors or e-teachers.


How do online instructors or e-teachers work?
An online instructor irrespective of a full time tutor teaches using internet technologies using asynchronous as well as synchronous techniques at non specific times in most cases. Instructions are passed on through emails, chats, discussion forums, audio/video/chat conferences etc. An online instructor has to effectively utilize tests and assignment projects as teaching methods. Tests and assignments can be corrected at a flexible time after the student delivers it. Interactivity with students is the most important function of an online instructor/e-teacher.

Requirements for an online instructor

  • Should have first hand experience as an online learner
  • Should have good knowledge of the internet
  • Should be able to dedicate at-least 2 - 3 hours every day reading and responding to students.
  • Should have ability to correspond and interact one to one with students
  • Should have lots of patience
  • Should be able to use both synchronous & asynchronous modes of interaction. (Synchronous modes include chat, video conferencing etc and asynchronous mode include mails, discussion forums etc.)
  • Should be able to delegate and correct assignments and provide feedback
